♫ ON HARPSICHORD – Svetlana Rodionova
A historic handcrafted instrument with an exceptionally beautiful sound will take you on a journey to Renaissance Europe.
The harpsichord is the predecessor of the piano, played already in the 13th century, and was greatly loved and widely used until around the 17th–18th centuries, when the era of classical music instruments began. Today, interest in Renaissance music is growing, and the harpsichord is becoming increasingly popular both in Estonia and around the world. Rediscovery brings a new vision and feeling, heals the soul and brings peace to the heart through harmony and beauty.
It is very likely that this instrument and this music were also played during the early days of Kirna Manor.
Svetlana Rodionova
is an Estonian harpsichordist and Baroque music enthusiast.
She has participated in various Baroque and early music projects in Estonia and Finland as a musician, singer, arranger, composer and improviser, playing historical instruments.
In 2009, she founded her ensemble Muzykanty Vetra, which performed until 2022. The ensemble performed Baroque and early music, folk music and Svetlana’s own compositions on historical instruments.
She received her bachelor’s degree in folk music from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT), further developing her skills in harpsichord playing, composition, improvisation and Baroque singing. She also continued her harpsichord and Baroque studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under the guidance of Annamari Pölhö.
Svetlana is currently refining her harpsichord playing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Professor Imbi Tarum, founder and artistic director of the Tallinn Harpsichord Festival.
